PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound material generating no foams by molding tows of carbon fibers derived from pitch multidimensionally, impregnating carbonaceous pitch into the molded tow, cooling at a specified cooling rate after subjecting the impregnated product to infusibilization, and repeating the above described stages, and carbonizing thereafter. CONSTITUTION:A molded body of fiber is produced by molding tows of carbon fibers derived from pitch two- or three-dimensionally, and carbonaceous pitch is impregnated into obtd. molded body of the fiber. Obtd. impregnated product is then subjected to infusibilization, and cooled thereafter to <=120 deg.C at <50 deg.C/min cooling rate. The infusibilization/cooling stage is repeated at least twice. A carbon/carbon compound material is obtd. by carbonizing or, if necessary, graphitizing the product obtd. after repeating the cycles. By this process, a carbon/carbon compound material generating no foams in the matrix, having high density, high strength, and high elastic modulus is obtd., which is used suitably as a material for members of air craft, etc. |
