A packing device for fresh dairy prod. such as "swiss" type cheese or the like, comprises a band surrounding the prod. and made of a plastic material of foodstuff quality selected to have characteristics ensuring easy removal of the prod. from its container and good separation of the prod. from the band. Preferably the plastic comprises polyolefins, polyesters, styrene polymer or PVC and their derivs. and is sufficiently sterile from prodn. to allow its use without partic. precaution on packaging lines of fresh dairy prods. without preservatives. The band is cut in a sheet or film of polypropylene 40-80 microm (pref. 60 microm) thick and of density 0.45-0.65 (0.55)g/cm2). ADVANTAGE - The band is free from preservative and fungicide such as sorbate.
