A seal mounted in a connector 34 housing which is adapted to be connected to a conduit 17 and has a generally outwardly projecting seal receiving recess formed therein. The seal is sized on three sides to make a close fit in the seal receiving recess and comprises a central core 12 formed from an elastomeric material; the remaining surface of the seal makes a sealing contact with a surface on a duct 17. The three sides may be covered by two plys of silicone impregnated fiberglass, the fiberglass fibers forming passageways which lead to the outer periphery of the seal. In this way gas pressure in the conduit is transmitted to the outer periphery of the seal inside the recess where it exerts an inwardly directed force on the seal to cause the work engaging surface of the seal to make a sealing engagement with a surface on the duct. <IMAGE>
