Filtering apparatus comprises a closed tank (1), floatable filtering particles held in the tank, an outflow provided in the top of the tank, an inflow port in the bottom, and means on the bottom for agitating the particles. Typically the particles are made of foamed polystyrene. Use and advantage: used for filtering the water in a garden pond or the water for an air conditioning apparatus, in a large building. This apparatus needs reduced maintenance cost.
