PURPOSE:To efficiently separate high-purity alpha-linolenic acid from a fatty acid mixture containing alpha-linolenic acid by a reversed phase chromatography using a specific carrier and eluent. CONSTITUTION:A fatty acid mixture containing alpha-linolenic acid as well as linol acid and olefinic acid as main ingredients is applied to reversed phase chromatography. When chromatographed, as a carrier packing into a column, a chemically linked octadecyl group binding type silica gel or styrene- divinylbenzene based copolymer is used and as an eluent, an organic solvent (e.g., dimethylsulfoxide) having 11-18 solubility parameter is used to separate alpha-linolenic acid. alpha-Linolenic acid has various kind of phisiologically active actions and be useful for various kind of uses such as food, health food, cosmetic or medicine. |
