PURPOSE:To reduce cost by providing a photosensor which identifies the kind of a ribbon cartridge optically based on differences in the running position of ink ribbon to be fed out, on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A sensor frame 6 with a recessed part 6a which allows passage of ink ribbon 5 to be fed out from a ribbon cartridge 4 mounted on a carrier 7, is installed at a specified position of the carrier 7, and a photosensor 1 consisting of a light-emitting part 1a and a light-receiving part 1b is installed in the recessed part 6a. The ink ribbon 2 is not inserted between the light- emitting part 1a and the light-receiving part 1b because the running position of ink ribbons 2, 5 to be fed out varies according to the type of the ribbon cartridge, neither is detected the ink ribbon 2 by the photosensor 1. In this way, the ribbon cartridges for different use purposes can be easily identified. |
