Process for producing an article of silicon carbide ceramic

Articles of silicon carbide ceramic which have hitherto been impregnated with metallic silicon are, instead of this, to be impregnated with an aluminium-silicon alloy. Aluminium and silicon are preferably present in the alloy in an approximate ratio of 3:1. The new articles show no sweating out of the metallic impregnation when used at high temperature. They are protected against oxidation by the formation of mullite.
