摘要 A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine is described, the piston of which is of rectangular design and the housing of which comprises a middle piece containing the piston width with two covers screw-connected to the middle piece over axial points of separation running perpendicular to the crankshaft centre axis. With the provision of 1) oscillating pistons having the same width as the working piston for scavenging and charging, 2) two crankshafts connected by gears, 3) inlets controlled by the oscillating pistons, in an engine having this construction and working on the two-stroke principle, the following advantages can be obtained compared to known reciprocating piston internal combustion engines: A) pistons free of lateral forces, and hence increased mechanical efficiency, B) easily manufactured construction with increased power-to-weight ratio, C) graduated charging, that is scavenging with air and, approaching the end of the exhaust, commencement of mixture charging by means of injection or carburettor, D) facility for supercharging in the cold range of the engine without the need for intercooling, and hence full utilisation of fuel with oil-free exhaust, that is normal crankshaft drive lubrication. The cycle obtainable is shown in the diagram below with the control points Aö exhaust opens, E1ö air inlet opens, E2ö mixture charging opens, AS exhaust closes, E1S air inlet closes, E2S mixture charging closes. <IMAGE>
