The invention relates to a vapour-active reforming catalyst which, in addition to converting isoparaffins to iso-olefins, also isomerizes 1-olefins at least partially to internal olefins. In a combined vapour-activated reforming and ether formation treatment the 1-olefin- containing stream 9 can be recirculated to a vapour- active reforming zone 1, with 1-olefins being converted to products which in the separation zone 4, after the ether formation zone, can easily be separated from isoparaffin, iso-olefin and 1-olefin, which are circulated back to the vapour-active reforming zone 1. The vapour-active reforming catalyst thus has a dual function as a reforming (dehydration) catalyst and isomerization catalyst for displacement of 1-olefin byproducts and to prevent the accumulation thereof during processing. <IMAGE>
