Electrodes contain reversibly reducible quinoid organic cpds. in combinations with electrically conductive materials not catalysing the decompsn. of H2O2. These electrodes are used in fuel cells operating with acid or neutral electrolytes and H2O2 as oxidant. Pref. quinoid cpd. is a substd. p-benzoquinone, esp. tri- or tetrachloro-derivs. and conductive material is a transition metal cpd. pref. Nb or W bronze, esp. W bronze with alkaline earth, Al, lanthanide or sub-gp. I transition metal.
