In a method of driving a tunnel with the use of a full-thickness tunnelling machine, in which the overburden material collecting in the cutting space is mixed with liquid while forming a pulpy mass and is conveyed away in this consistency, the liquid is injected under high pressure directly into the cutting space, while the tunnelling machine is advanced with the actuation of a cutting wheel. During the advance of the tunnelling machine separating the cutting space from the interior of the completed tunnel in a liquid-tight manner, the overburden material mixing here with the liquid is pressed into the earth adjacent to the cutting space and is displaced there.
