An electrical rotary switch having illumination has a housing, a switching shaft which can be moved into a plurality of switching positions by rotation about its longitudinal axis, a light conducting body through which light, which is emitted from a light source, can pass to a display area, and a contact link which can be moved via a switching shaft and interacts with stationary contacts. In order to be able to illuminate a plurality of display areas, and to move the contact link, using a small number of components, the light conducting body is coupled to the switching shaft in a rotationally fixed manner and displaces the contact link during the rotational movements of the switching shaft.
