An explosionproof electric discharge lamp has an arc discharge tube (1) arranged inside a glass bulb (3) and connected to a connecting element (10) which acts as a safety fuse element. The interior of the glass bulb (3) is either evacuated or filled with inert gas. The connecting element (10) has a fuse wire (11) which is not luminous during operation but which fuses completely immediately air enters, whereupon the tube (2) is switched off. The tube (2) cools within 10 seconds to temperatures incapable of igniting the surrounding atmosphere. |
