<p>1293841 Polymers of butadiene and isoprene PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 16 March 1970 [14 April 1969] 12525/70 Heading C3P A process for polymerizing butadiene and isoprene comprises polymerizing the monomer in the presence of a haloaryllithium initiator and adding to the polymerization mixture, when the polymerization is at least 25% but not more than 80% complete, a minor amount of an allyl tin compound. The allyl tin compound preferably has the formula wherein x is an integer of 1-4, y is 0 or an integer from 1-3, the sum of x and y being 4, R is hydrogen or alkyl or cycloalkyl having up to 6 carbons, and R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl hydrocarbon containing up to 25 carbon atoms, and is preferably tetraallyl tin. The haloaryllithium initiator is preferably a compound of the formula or a mixture thereof, wherein one of R<SP>11</SP> is lithium, one is hydrogen and one is fluorine, chlorine or bromine; e.g. 3-bromophenyllithium. The process may be carried out in the presence of 1,3-dibromobenzene. The polymers obtained can be vulcanized using conventional recipes. The process of Specification 1,212,228 is disclaimed.</p> |
