Process comprises (a) placing the meat prods. in a closed pressure-resistant container; (b) reducing the oxygen content in the enclosed air; (c) applying pref. gas at above atmos. pressure for 10 minutes min.; and-(d) decompression. Use of a non-flammable, odourless acid colourless gas avoids the disadvantages of using insecticides or toxic prods. and provides total elimination of mites in all their biological phases (adults, larvae, nymphs, eggs and hypopos), without change to the material.
