The tread-cutting die comprises interchangeable cutting jaws (2,3) in a frame (1), for dressing a damaged thread. The jaws can be slid sufficiently far apart in the frame to allow them to be placed on an undamaged section of the thread. They then carry out the dressing operation in the unscrewing direction. The jaws can have a rectangular external countour, while the guide tracks in the frame are unsymmetrical. Thus the jaws can be slid in them and locked in position, but cannot be fitted the wrong way round. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easy reconditioning particularly of locknut thread on tapering shaft accommodating vehicle wheel hub, and which has been distorted when pulling the wheel off.
