PURPOSE:To greatly improve the life of a shaft seal device by providing a projecting portion which is brought into contact with the groove bottom portion between lip seal portions on the side end portion opposite to the lip seal portions of a spacer ring, to prevent the contact of the lip seal portion with the side end portion of the spacer ring. CONSTITUTION:A spacer ring 5 is provided between lip seals 4, 4' and lip seal portions 6a, 6b and a spacer-ring side end portion 5a opposite to the lip seal portions are kept in noncontact condition because of the contact of a projecting portion 5b provided on the side end portion 5a with the groove bottom portion 7c between the lip seal portions 6a, 6b. Therefore, even if a plurality of lip seals 4, 4' are placed in parallel, the axially pushing pressure by a sealed fluid to which one lip seal 4 is subjected will not affect the lip seal portions 6a, 6b of the adjacent lip seal 4', keeping each lip seal 4, 4' like an independently provided condition. Hence, a condition to always effect a defined sealing function can be maintained, greatly improving the life of a shaft seal device. |
