To produce a mixture composed of a burnable gas and combustion air which is to be supplied to a combustion process the combustion air flowing in in the direction of the combustion region is supplied with the total quantity of the burnable gas to be admixed, in steps in a plurality of partial quantities distributed over the flow path. This supply of the burnable gas which takes place at mutually spaced locations can take place in a manner directed radially inwards from the outside of the combustion-air stream or in a manner directed radially outwards from the interior thereof. A device suitable for carrying out this method comprises a combustion-air duct (1) which leads to a burner plate (2) penetrated by mixture outlet openings (3), and a burnable-gas duct (5) which is assigned to said combustion-air duct and has outlets (6) which open into the combustion-air duct (1) in a longitudinal region running in an upper stream of the burner plate (2). For the additional homogenisation of the mixture, it is possible to provide in the combustion-air duct (1) fittings (12-15) which swirl the mixture on its way to the burner plate (2). <IMAGE>
