Safety device for vehicles

A safety device for vehicles, especially cars, is described, which has a safety belt and a device for limiting the belt force which occurs in the safety belt in the event of restraint, the belt force limiting device having a component (1) which is deformed, preferably permanently, when a predetermined belt force is exceeded, while at the same time absorbing energy. In order to prevent a reduction in strength and the resulting danger of fracture while the component is being deformed, means (6-9) are to be provided which come into engagement in order to increase the strength of the component (1) when the latter has reached a predetermined degree of deformation. These means may be composed of at least one holding element (6, 7) which starts to absorb the belt forces when the component (1) has been deformed to a prescribed extent. <IMAGE>
