A balance for measuring true mass compares the weight of the test object (8) with a reference weight. The reference force consists of the effective weight of a mass (9) and other components of the force transmission chain. The reference force may include elastic prestresses in addition to the weights. Both the weight of the test object (8) and the reference force act on, and are measured by, a single dynamometer (7) which is firmly secured to the balance. The balance is calibrated in two angular positions (horizontal and inclined) and the values of the weights (R1, R2, L1, L2) when the balance is unloaded and loaded with a standard weight(mL) are stored temporarily in a read-only memory of the computer (10). The numerical parameters of the balance derived therefrom are permanently stored. Prior to each weighing, but at least each time the balance is taken into service, the reference force (Rx) is redetermined. The true mass (mx) of the test object is determined accurately from the permanently stored quantities, the reference force and the weight (Lx) of said object, even when the balance is tilted.
|
