The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the heat treatment of fine-grained material, a fine-grained basic additive being introduced into the gas stream in the preheating zone, which additive for the most part infiltrates the preheating zone in the gas stream. In this manner, a significant reduction of the SO2 content of the exhaust gas can be achieved.
