For machining packs of annular workpieces, such as, in particular, piston rings, a defined pack length must be made available in the machining station. With the device according to the invention, it is possible automatically to make available workpiece packs of defined length. A multiplicity of workpieces 7 hanging on a rod 1 are clamped by means of a clamping device to form a pack, from this pack only the number of workpieces 7' corresponding to a defined pack length is pushed over the end region of the rod 1 with the aid of the clamping device and fed to a workpiece receptacle 4 arranged underneath the rod 1 by releasing the clamping device. The apparatus is suitable for independently working machine tools in which annular workpieces have to be made available in packs. <IMAGE>
