1300230 Dyeing compositions; optical brightening compositions GROUPEMENT D'INTERET ECONOMIQUE STX 24 Dec 1969 [24 Dec 1968 19 May 1969] 62939/69 Headings D1B and DIP Homogeneous compositions for colouring fibres of basic character comprise an anionic dyestuff, water, at least one halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon, at least one further solvent and an organic or mineral acid in such proportions that these components are completely miscible with each other, the pH of the compositions being lower than 6. Preferred halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbons have 1 to 3 carbon atoms e.g. methylene chloride or chloroform and the further solvents, which preferably boil below 130‹C, may be alcohols e.g. methanol or ethanol, ketones or multifunctional compounds e.g. glycolnitrile. The acid components which may also act as the further solvent include phosphoric, formic, acetic, glycollic and citric acids. Dyeing takes place in an open. bath, by foularding, spraying or printing (in presence of a thickener) optionally in presence of a swelling agent, e.g. phenol, at temperatures from ambient temperature to 130‹C. When the percentage of water in the composition (excluding the dyestuff) is less than 90% then exhaustion may occur at below 45‹C. Acid, direct, metallised, reactive and fluorescent brightening dyes are used and the substrates are wool, silk, polyamides, polyurethanes, animalised or basified cellulosic or synthetic fibres e.g. polyalkylene or acrylic fibres. |
