A hot-gas receiprocating engine including a heater housing of at least two rows of pipes which are arranged one behind the other in the flow path of combustion gases, transverse to the flow direction, the intermediate space being filled with a mass of a material which is readily heat-radiant during operation of the engine and through which the combustion gases can flow.
