PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF FIBROUS MAGNESIUM OXIDE

A magnesium oxide of a cubic system needle-like crystal structure is produced by calcining a basic magnesium cpd. of a monoclinic or rhombic system needle-like crystal structure of formula Mg(OH)2-nxAxn-mH2O or a magnesium hydroxide of a hexagonal needle-like crystal structure at 400-2000 C, and converting it to the magnesium oxide. In the formula, An- is a monovalent (n=1) to tetravalent (n=4) anion; X is 0.2 to 0.5; m is up to 2.
