PURPOSE: To mechanically bond a rubber to a reinforcing or a fitting material so that the mechanical bond resists a shearing force by assembling a rubber part and a reinforcing part in such a manner that a rubber upstanding post penetrates through the openings of the reinforcing part and changing the shape of the upstanding post. CONSTITUTION: To realize the mechanical engagement of a reinforcing sheet (e.g. a metal) with a rubber sheet, a heating element 18 is brought into contact with a rubber post 14 to deform the rubber post 15. That is, the distal ends 14A of the post 14 are melted and are reformed into the shape of a rubber rivet so that the rivets generate a mechanical locking effect between the rubber sheet and the reinforcing sheet. The surfaces 12A, 10A of the reinforcing and the rubber sheet 12, 10 bonded together with an adhesive are set side by side. The rubber post 14 extends through the opening 16 of the reinforcing, (e.g. a metal) sheet 12 and the deformed lip 14A forms the head of the rivet to mechanically retain the rubber sheet 10 and the reinforcing sheet 12. The mechanical bonding, when coupled with an adhesive bonding, effectively retains a substance, especially under shear conditions, while it is bonded. |
