PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having plural zigzag crimps in high durability, giving a yarn having high bulkiness and little settling and useful as a core yarn, etc., by pressing a cellulosic fiber bundle into a packing chamber to impact buckling to the fiber and treating the buckled fiber with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A cellulosic fiber bundle such as cotton sliver is applied with moisture by passing through a gap between a pair of metal rollers, pushed into a packing chamber to apply artificial crimps to the cellulosic fiber bundle, packaged to an apparent density of 0.3g/cm<3> in a crimped state and treated with an alkali using an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide having a concentration of 25wt.%. The objective fiber produced by this process has >=4 zigzag crimps per 1cm and satisfies the formula 0.94<=T<=1.36 wherein T is durability of the crimp defined by the formula T=W0/W1 (W0 is weight of cellulosic fiber after processing and before boiling water treatment when the weight of the non-processed cellulosic fiber is taken as 100; W1 is the weight ratio of the fiber after boiling water treatment). |
