PURPOSE:To reduce wear amounts in the early using stage and to clearly print rugged patterns on the surface of a rolled steel material by arranging thicknesses of chrome plating layer on a roll surface in the order in which thick areas and thin areas are alternately positioned. CONSTITUTION:As for a roll after plating, the total of an oxide layer 24 and a part of a machined layer 23 are removed and plating layers 28, 29 are formed on the removed parts. That is, the base plating layer 28 is formed on the machined layer 23 in a nearly uniform thickness and the pattern plating layer 29 of a prescribed thickness is formed on the layer 28. The layer 29 has plated layers 30 and non-plated layers 31 and prescribed rugged patterns are formed on the roll surface by alternately arranging those layers 30 and 31. Therefore, degradation of the rugged patterns is delayed and printing of clear rugged patterns is performed in a long period of time because surface roughness peaks of the chrome plating layer are flattened and a roll wearing amount in the early stage is reduced. |
