PURPOSE:To prevent a ghost or the like from occurring, by a method wherein in the case that an ink image is not completely transferred to a medium to be recorded, the ink image remaining on an intermediate transfer medium is removed by a cleaning means contact with the intermediate transfer medium. CONSTITUTION:A cleaning means 14 is so constructed that cleaning agent 15 comes in contact with a surface of an intermediate transfer roller 6 on the downstream side of a transfer position in the rotation direction of the intermediate transfer roller 6, and is composed of a rotatable cleaning agent transfer roller 14a and a rotatable cleaning agent coating roller 14b. A surface of the cleaning agent transfer roller 14 is preferably coarsened in order to raise the conveyance and carrying property of the cleaning agent 15. Further, when an ink image 2a'' is removed by bringing the cleaning agent 15 into contact with the intermediate transfer roller 6, a peripheral speed of the cleaning agent transfer roller 14a is preferably so set as to be made equal to or slightly slower than a peripheral speed of the intermediate transfer roller 6. |
