The drive circuit is connected between an alternating current source and a transformer. It has a device for detecting peak values of the alternating voltage connected in parallel with two lines which connect the two input terminals to the two output terminals of the drive circuit respectively. The output of the peak value detector is connected to two switches connected in series in the two lines, and also to an invertor. The output terminal of the invertor is connected to two switches disposed respectively in parallel on the lines.
