The device effects spindle speed control and positioning control using a signal unit. Current speed of a spindle is fed back as voltage signals to an adder which also receives command speed input from a command unit via a switching circuit and a D/A converter and supplies output to a speed controller that controls the motor to achieve the required speed. Pulses are supplied to a current position register each time a set amount of rotation is completed. The command unit can also issue a spindle position command and in this case the command is compared with the current position register content to give a deviation signal that is supplied through the switching circuit and D/A converter.
