<p>A communication network advantageously uses existing broadcast channels (24, 32) to instruct remote receivers (16) and eventually use automatic dial-up capability (4) for forming a telephone communication link (26) with a central processing facility (20). The network is capable of providing many services from remote reading of meters (10, 12, 14) to electronic mail and electronic billing. The network is preferably shared by a number of large users (34, 36, 38) communicating with a host of subscribers (2).</p> |
