In order to create an overvoltage protection apparatus on an electrical mains plug socket, an electrical disconnection device and a signalling device which indicates at least complete disconnection being assigned to the overvoltage protection apparatus, the overvoltage protection apparatus together with the disconnection and signalling device being combined to form an installation unit, the latter being arranged such that it is held by the mains plug socket and alongside it, and being electrically connected thereto via conductors which cannot be detached at least when the plug socket is installed, according to Patent Application P 3706419.3-34, the overvoltage protection apparatus together with the disconnection and signalling device furthermore being arranged in a common housing, and in the case of which overvoltage protection apparatus two mutually independent mains systems can be accommodated in a confined space and can be protected from one another, it is proposed that the housing (3) have a further mains connection part with an input and output as well as a protective-earth conductor and that the protective-earth conductor be connected to the protective-earth conductor of the mains plug socket (1) via a coupling spark gap which is common to both and is arranged in the housing (3). <IMAGE>
