A copying device for a wood turning machine, having a pivotable steel holder and having a hydraulic cylinder for the steel holder. The technical problem is to design the copying device in such a way that a small feeler force is sufficient for the feeler lever. Additionally, retrofitting of an existent turning machine is to be possible. A feeler lever (15) arranged pivotably on the steel holder (4) deflects an inductive position pick-up (19) whose output voltage controls a multi-directional valve (22) for the adjusting cylinder (7) in the direction of returning the deflection of the position pick-up (19). <IMAGE>
