METHOD FOR SOLIDIFYING OR ENCAPSULATING COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To solidify or encapsulate a water-contg. compsn. by uniformly adding polymer particles having a specific core component and shell component into a compsn. contg. a continuous aq. phase, then compounding an org. or inorg. base therewith. CONSTITUTION: The polymer particles having the core component and the shell component are uniformly compounded with the compsn. contg. the substantially continuous aq. phase and further the org. or inorg. base is compounded into this compsn. and the polymer particles are swollen to introduce all of the aq. phase into the polymer particles, by which the polymer particles are neutralized and the compsn. is solidified or encapsulated. The core component described above is obtd. by emulsion polymn. of a monoethylenic unsatd. monomer for the core contg. >=5 wt.% carboxylic acid and having a -CH=C= group. The shell component described above is obtd. by emulsion polymn. of a monoethylenic unsatd. monomer having a -CH=C= group in the presence of the core component.
