A plate element for a cheese mould is provided with through drainage holes 14 close to the side 15, which will bear against the curds, and at the opposite side is designed with a lattice structure 20 at the bottom 12 of which the drainage holes 14 open out. The plate element according to the invention provides more space for drainage holes 14 whilst the element at the same time possesses adequate rigidity. Instead of milling the depressions in the structure 20, the cost of manufacturing the plate element is reduced by making it from one piece of plate 10 and a lattice element 20, which are joined together by welding. Furthermore the lattice element 20 can be provided with projections 21, so that openings 25 are formed between the piece of plate 10 and the lattice walls 22. <IMAGE>
