The invention is based on a process of the above type in which the webs are moved longitudinally and machined section by section by cutting elements guided transversely to the web. To be able to machine comparatively wide webs accurately, the invention provides that the sections to be machined are convexly deformed and at the same time also kept under longitudinal tension.
