NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R<1> is lower alkyl or lower alkenyl; R<2> and R<3> are H or lower alkyl) and a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:7-[(R)-2-Amino-2-(3-hydroxy-4-hydroxymethylphenyl)acetamido]-3- methyl-3-cepkem-4-carboxylic acid. USE:An antimicrobial agent showing excellent recovery ratio in urine. PREPARATION:A 7-amino-3-cephem derivative shown by formula II (R<4> is monofunctional carboxyl protecting group) is condensed with D-forphenicinol derivative shown by formula III (R<5> is monofunctional amino-protecting group) and the successively prepared condensation product is deprotected.
