<p>The invention provides a magnetic compass calibration system which compensates for permanent and induced magnetic fields of a vehicle in order to provide an accurate heading indication, wherein x and y magnetometer values are processed in accordance with an algorithm in order to update calibration whereby calibration can be effected without performing a specific manoeuvre such as causing the vehicle to circle through 360 DEG . The compass is suitable for use in a navigation system using the dead reckoning technique.</p> |
