PURPOSE:To obtain a product having low sodium content, by adjusting the pH of an aqueous extract of tangle and contacting the extract with a potassium- type reinforced acidic cation exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:Conventional dried tangle to be served as a food is crushed and immersed in hot water to extract water-soluble component. The extract is adjusted to a pH of >=9, preferably about 10.5-11.5. The potassium-type strongly acidic cation exchange resin used in the present process is produced by conventional method. The aqueous extract of tangle having adjusted pH is made to contact with the potassium-type strongly acidic cation exchange resin by column method, batch immersion method, etc., to decrease the sodium content of the extract to about <=0.5wt.%, preferably <=0.3wt.% on dry basis. The pH of the product is adjusted to about 5-6 with an acid to obtain the objective tangle extract. The extract may be converted to a concentrate, powder, etc., by conventional method and used as a raw material for health food (e.g., refreshing drink). |
