PURPOSE:To prevent cracking flaw developing on upper face shell by separating end face of a dam block contacting with a cast slab at the prescribed position from the cast slab wall only in meniscus part. CONSTITUTION:For example, in the shifting type dam block 14 for the inclining type twin belt caster, the variation as the deplacing locus O at the prescribed position to width direction of the cast slab 8, that is, to the shell wall face (d) is given. Solidification of short side shell 11 is started, and further, the block 14 is shifted to downstream side, and then the block 14 facing to width direction of the cast slab is mutually approached. Successively, the block 14 is separated from the wall of the cast slab 8. Therefore, thin air gap 18 is developed between the end face 14a of one piece of block 14 contacting with molten metal and the shell 11, and sticking between the end face 14a and the shell 11 is prevented. Further, the upper face shell 12 is developed and as the growth of the shell 11 at the time of solidifying and shrinking, is delayed, the strength of the shell 12 is intensed and the shell 11 is drawn to the P direction and the cracking flaw to the shell 12 is not developed. |
