The method for producing gentamycin by fermentation comprises: (a) inoculating the strain (micromonospora purpurea ATCC 15835) in germination medium containing 1 g/l glucose, 3 g/l beef extract, 5 g/ l tryptone, 5 g/l yeast extract, 24 g/l starch, and 2 g/l calcium carbonate; (b) incubating the medium containing the strain at 32 C for 3 days; (c) adding culture broth to main culture medium containing 70 g/l dextrin, 5 g/l glucose, 35 g/l soybean, 7 g/l calcium carbonate and 0.001 g/l cobalt chloride; (d) incubating the above medium at 32≦̸C for 6 days.
