The filter device has in a housing a passage bore, which forms the flow channel, is enlarged by two chambers and has intermittently driven rolls with axes arranged transversely with respect to the flow channel. In the operating state, the throughflow bores located in the rolls are in alignment with the passage bores of the housing and thus form the flow channel, which is not deflected. In the throughflow bore of the first roll there is a shoulder, against which the filter insert, which is arrested by a spacer sleeve, comes to bear. When the first roller is swivelled through 180@, the filter insert is reversed and flushed from the rear side, by the melt continuing to flow in the flow channel. The second roll, swivelled simultaneously with the first roll through 90@, forms a melt outflow channel together with the outflow bore located at the bottom of the housing, the recess located on the roll circumference and the passage bore. In every filter position, the flow channel does not have any contact with the atmosphere, so that no bubbles can form in the melt.
