Process for the electrodeposition of corrosion-inhibiting zinc/nickel layers, zinc/cobalt layers or zinc/nickel/cobalt layers having a predefined alloy composition onto metallic surfaces, especially onto sheet steel and/or steel profile surfaces, from an electrolyte which contains the metal ions to be deposited, chloride ions and at least one additive, by means of which the deposition is influenced as a function of the cathodic current density. At least one anion-active additive based on the mono- or polybasic ether sulphonic acid or based on the salts thereof is added, which additive has been prepared by individual or combined sulphopropylation and/or sulphobutylation from various hydroxyl-containing compounds.
