Expansion-joint slabs, which are connected to one another via horizontal butt joints, are introduced into construction joints between above-ground walls. The expansion-joint-slab end sides, which lie open during building, are protected by a plastic profile which spans the construction joint, receives the abutting expansion-joint slabs on their end sides and exhibits two wall-parallel flanges and a Z-shaped web which connects said flanges. The Z-shaped web not only permits, during building, edge protection in the case of expansion-joint slabs with a rebate or in the case of expansion-joint slabs which are arranged in two layers and are offset, but, as a result of the low dynamic rigidity of the Z-shaped web, said rigidity being reducible still further by correspondingly plasticised plastic, and due to the long path, a good sound-insulation value is also achieved in the butt joint.
