The damping element is designed as a flexible lug (1). Said lug (1) exhibits an insert (8), which extends between two fastening points (2, 3) and consists of a tension-resistant material, such as steel wire or glass fibres, as well as a matrix (9) which encloses the insert (8) and consists of a material having a small modulus of elasticity, such as lead. Such a damping element effects rapid attenuation of the movement of an apparatus which is subjected to impact, in particular earthquakes, if it is fastened, on the one hand, on the apparatus and, on the other hand, on a fixed bearing point or a moveable, inert mass, in doing so forming a bending force. <IMAGE>
