<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate noise with a large amplitude at a still area and noise at still area near a moving area by separating a picture signal into the moving area and the still area, applying noise eliminating processing suitable for each area. CONSTITUTION:A frame memory 1 stores a picture signal to be supplied and gives it to a difference device 2 after retarding it by one frame period. The device 2 obtains a difference signal between the supplied picture signal and a picture signal of one preceding frame given from the memory 1 and gives it to an evaluation calculation circuit 3, which calculates the evaluation value from the inter-frame difference signal and gives the result to a noise eliminating characteristic decision circuit 4. The decision circuit 4 extracts the evaluation value of a picture element being an object of processing from the evaluation value and the evaluation value of the picture element in the vicinity to apply moving/still discrimination in the unit of picture elements and gives the result to a changeover device 9. On the other hand, a still area noise elimination circuit 5 applies noise elimination processing suitable for the still area with respect to the supplied picture signal and gives the result to a switch 9. Similarly, a moving area noise eliminating circuit 7 applies the noise elimination processing suitable for the moving area and gives the result to the switch 9.</p> |
