PURPOSE:To improve use efficiency of a catalyst by forming a coating layer for carrying a catalyst on the surface of a ceramic foam carrier having a three dimensional net structure frame, wherein said coating layer is thick in an upper stream part of an exhaust gas and thin in a down stream part of the gas. CONSTITUTION:A slurry for making a coating layer for carrying a catalyst for exhaust gas purification is prepd. and adjusted to 10-250cps viscosity and a ceramic foam carrier having a three dimensional net structure frame 1 is immersed in the slurry. The ceramic foam carrier is pulled out, excessive slurry on the carrier is blown away, and after the carrier is held quietly, the slurry deposited on the frame 1 of the ceramic foam carrier is heated. As a result, the obtained coating layer 2 is thick in an upper stream part 2A of an exhaust gas and thin in a down stream part 2B of the gas. In the part 2A, a large amount of a catalyst is carried and the purification ability is improved. |
