<p>PURPOSE:To realize a plurality of optical memory cells in which optical information can be transferred to an arbitrary cell by laterally and longitudinally disposing the plurality of optical memory cells each having P-N-P-N junction structure on the same substrate, and providing the light emitting layers and the photodetecting layers of each cell in the same plane. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of optical memory cells A-1-A-3, B-1-B-3, C-1-C-3 each having a P-N-P-N junction are formed on one semiconductor substrate, and the light emitting layer and the photodetecting layer of each cell are formed in the same plane. When optical information is written in the cell A-1, the information of the cell A-1 is then read out, its light is radiated, and a writing bias is applied to the cell to be transferred, such as the cell A-2 in coincidence with the reading timing, the cell A-2 is turned ON by the light irradiated horizontally from the light emitting layer of the cell A-1, and the information is written in the cell A-2. Since the information can be transferred to the arbitrary cell in this manner, they can be employed for an optical computer, an optical exchange, etc.</p> |
