A device (10) to assist location of a ski lost in deep snow after a fall comprises a housing (12) in which a drum (14) is rotatably mounted. A cord (16) is secured to and wound around the drum and passes through an aperture (24) in the housing. A clip (30) is disposed at the free end of the cord. The housing is connected to a skier's leg by a repeatably separable coupling (50) and the clip connects the cord to the ski. In a fall, and if the cord is drawn out of the housing to its full extent, the coupling separates. A plate (90) extends around the housing and resists embedding of the housing in the snow and aids subsequent location and retrieval of the ski if it is buried in snow. |
